Total approximate cost per year is $1,700 which includes books.
This program takes a minimum of four years to complete. On-the-Job training is 2,000 hours per year—a total of 8,000 hours over the four years; Related classroom instruction is 576 hours (144 hours per year), each of the four years of the program per Maryland state requirement.
You do not need a job to apply, but you must find employment with one of our member electrical contractors within the first year. There is a hiring list available.
For every 1,000 hours you work and accumulate, you make a percentage of your employer’s average journeyperson’s wage. For example, up to 1,000 hours you’ll make 50% your employer’s journeyperson’s wage; up to 2,000 hours, you’ll make 55%, and so on – between 7,000 and 8,000 hours you’ll make 85% your employer’s journeyperson’s wage.
Applications for entry into the program are accepted and reviewed on an ongoing basis. The application deadline for the 2023-2024 school year is May 31, 2023.
In-class instruction begins in September and runs through April. Prior to starting classes, you can begin to earn on-the-job training hours in January of the school year in which you begin.
Classes are held twice a week in the evening September through April, from 6:15-9 PM. 1st and 3rd year students attend on Monday and Wednesday evenings; 2nd and 4th year students attend on Tuesday and Thursday evenings.
